Sorry about being a little late with my draft....
So I have decided to write about how the social media has helped the Department of Wildlife Services, and how putting pictures of a lost pet on telephone poles around the neighborhood is now a thing of the past.
I decided to write about this subject as I was looking threw my Facebook account, and after I had liked the page about Utah Division of Wildlife Service, I noticed a lot of posts coming up on that page about poaching and about lost animals. Both of which I have close personal feeling about.
First poaching, along time ago people maybe rarely heard about someone killing an animal before the rightful season for that animal was upon them. With Facebook and the social media those days of hearing about it later are gone. People hear about poachers just as soon as the DNR finds out about and takes that first picture and posts it to their page. There have been a few instances this year where the post was on Facebook and the perpetrator was caught quickly after it had been posted. One of the instances I can remember is how the DNR had taken a picture of a dead mule deer one day before the season had opened, and the person who had shot that deer early tried to go back opening day and retrieve his buck. He of course got in big trouble because the DNR knew that he had shot the deer too early and had proof by what they had posted on social media websites. The fine for poaching is a very hefty fine with up to $20,000 dollars, losing your hunting license, and even having your guns and vehicle confiscated.
The next thing I wanted to hit on was how this website also posts pictures of lost animals. I remember the good old days when people who lost a pet put flyers around their neighborhood on telephone poles describing their pet and leaving their phone number hoping someone would call if they found their pet. The Utah Department of Wildlife services puts all this information on their posts and the amount of people that see that flyer are definitely more than those few neighborhood telephone posts can provide. I'm not sure if the lost animals do get back to their rightful owners, but I can definitely say that social media cites are making the percentages a lot better than they use to be.
I have to say that social media is such a help to so many areas of society, if people would just learn how to use it for positive purposes it could be a huge help in so many areas. I'm extremely glad the DNR is using all the different angles of media that they can and they are keeping our wildlife safe from those who think they are above the law. Edward Snowden
Is Edward Snowden a patriot or a trader?
When I first watched this video, and new I had to write something about Snowden, I was thinking how Edward was sticking up for what he thought was the right thing to do. I thought for sure he is a patriot and he is trying to open the eyes of Americans all over the world.
As I thought about it further, and from all the talking in the classroom, Edward Snowden basically told people what they already know. (Or should know anyways) So for Edward to come out and break his signed agreement with the NSA he was just trying to blow the situation into a bigger mess than it was going to be. I agree with other peoples papers that he simply was trying to make this situation a huge ordeal.
We know we are being watched by the government, people frankly don't give a damn. As we were studying the easy accessibility to our hand held devices, cell phones etc., I was shocked to see the percentage of people that simply don't care if they are being watched. Even if they get a text message saying, "I know what you're doing and were you are, be careful what you indulge on your cell phone." People still went on with all their daily activities as if nothing happened.
So frankly if people are going to be stupid with their choice of information shared and their activities, then there should be no complaining about this whole subject matter at all.
Did Snowden do what he thought was good for his fellow Americans? Maybe, but the bottle of worms he opened was not as necessary as he probably thought it was to open.
